Used empty container handlers

In terminals and inland ports an empty container moves far more often than a loaded one, and moving it with a machine built for loaded boxes means paying for fuel, tyres and maintenance you do not need. The empty container handler exists for exactly this: it lifts empty 20ft and 40ft containers and stacks them high, on a lighter structure and at a lower running cost.

Best Lift buys, overhauls and resells used empty container handlers, and supports them with parts and service.

What to check before buying one

  • Stacking height — how many containers it can pile up: this is what decides whether the machine suits your yard
  • Empty-handling spreader — single or double (for two 20ft boxes at once), condition of twistlocks and extension
  • Hours and lifting gear — mast, chains, cylinders
  • Engine — parts availability for that unit, which on out-of-production machines is the real constraint
  • Tyres — they matter more on these machines than people expect

Currently for sale: Terex Fantuzzi FDC 18 K6 empty container handler, 2010, fully reconditioned, 8,000 kg under spreader, stacks six high.

Makes we handle

Fantuzzi, CVS Ferrari, Kalmar, Terex, Hyster, Konecranes, SMV and Linde — the same makes we stock parts for. When a machine is out of production, being able to source components matters more than the year of manufacture.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an empty container handler and a reachstacker?
A reachstacker lifts loaded containers up to 45-46 tonnes and reaches the second and third row. An empty handler moves only empties, but stacks them higher, costs less and burns less fuel.

How many empties can it stack?
It depends on the model and the spreader. Tell us how high you need to go and we will point you to the right machines.

Do you have units available now?
The online catalogue does not always match the yard. Ask us: we often have machines arriving or under overhaul that are not published yet.

Do you supply parts as well?
Yes — new, used, original, OEM and aftermarket. See spare parts.

Do you handle transport?
Yes, we arrange it: see transport and shipping.
