An empty container handler that lifts 8 tonnes and stacks six high

The Terex Fantuzzi FDC 18 K6 is a front lift truck built for one job: moving empty containers around terminals, depots and storage yards, all day, without stopping. It lifts up to 8,000 kg under the spreader at a 1,200 mm load centre and stacks up to six 8’6″ ISO containers high, which is the standard layout of an empty container depot.

The unit we have available was built in 2010, has around 12,000 working hours and has been fully reconditioned: engine, transmission, axles, mast, hydraulic system, electrical system and cab have all been rebuilt, the spreader was reconditioned by the manufacturer, and the tyres are new. The paintwork has been partially redone. The machine is ready to go straight into service.

Engine, transmission and systems

The engine is a Volvo TAD650VE direct-injection turbodiesel rated 195 HP at 1,800 rpm with intercooler – a common choice in port handling equipment, with parts that are easy to source. It has been reconditioned.

The transmission is a Dana Clark TE13 with torque converter, power-shift and inching control, which lets the driver creep up to the container while keeping engine revs where the hydraulics need them. It has its own oil cooling system and has also been reconditioned, as have the front and rear axles.

Service brakes are wet discs on the front Kessler axle with oil cooling – a maintenance-free arrangement that holds up to continuous duty, where dry brakes wear out quickly. The parking brake is a dry disc on the transmission shaft, oil vacuum powered.

Both the hydraulic and the electrical systems have been reconditioned. The hydraulic system includes oil cooling, which keeps the oil at its optimum temperature, improves circuit performance and reduces the risk of leaks. That matters in hot climates, where an uncooled system loses efficiency and starts weeping oil after a few hours of work.

Steering is power-assisted, with a heavy duty double-acting mono-cylinder on the steer axle, and responds even with the machine stationary.

Mast, spreader and chassis

The mast is a full-visibility duplex with heavy section profiles sized for demanding duty cycles. It has been reconditioned and fitted with new sliding bearings.

The telescopic spreader handles single empty 20 ft and 40 ft ISO containers, with hydraulic side-shift and both electrical and mechanical safety devices. It is a heavy duty unit, built to take the punishment of fast, rough handling, with easy access to every component, and it has been fully reconditioned by the manufacturer.

The chassis is made of high strength steel for high torsional rigidity and even stress distribution, which translates into stability and safety. It has been fully checked over. The layout puts accessibility first: engine, transmission, brakes and the hydraulic and electrical systems can be reached without lengthy dismantling, which shortens every service job.

Cab and controls

The cab is enclosed, ergonomic, sound-proofed and heated, set in a raised rear position that gives the driver a clear view of the whole working area and of the load up top. Instrumentation is comprehensive and every control sits within easy reach, with a joystick operating all lifting functions. It is a workplace designed for long shifts, where operator fatigue becomes a safety issue. The cab has been fully reconditioned too.

The specification is completed by new tyres (4 x 12.00-20 front, 2 x 12.00-20 rear), a lighting set compliant with traffic regulations, an amber beacon, and the operator, maintenance and spare parts manuals.

Typical applications

  • empty container depots and terminals stacking up to six high
  • inland terminals and logistics platforms with continuous handling
  • bonded warehouses and storage yards with tight manoeuvring space
  • container repair and washing facilities
  • terminals in hot climates, thanks to hydraulic oil and brake cooling

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Terex Fantuzzi FDC 18 K6 lift?
Up to 8,000 kg under the spreader, at a 1,200 mm load centre.

How high does it stack?
Six 8’6″ ISO containers.

How many working hours does it have?
Around 12,000 hours. For a machine of this size that is a moderate figure, and the engine, transmission, axles and systems have been reconditioned on top of that.

Does it handle both 20 ft and 40 ft containers?
Yes. The spreader is telescopic and takes single empty 20 ft and 40 ft ISO containers, with hydraulic side-shift to line up the load without repositioning the machine.

Which engine and transmission does it have?
A Volvo TAD650VE direct-injection turbodiesel, 195 HP at 1,800 rpm with intercooler, and a Dana Clark TE13 transmission with torque converter, power-shift and inching. Both reconditioned.

What exactly has been reconditioned?
Engine, transmission, axles, mast, hydraulic system, electrical system and cab. The spreader was reconditioned by the manufacturer, the tyres are new and the paintwork has been partially redone. We can supply the full list of work carried out on request.

Are spare parts available?
Yes. Best Lift supplies Terex spare parts and Fantuzzi spare parts, along with components for Volvo engines and Dana Clark transmissions.

Do you ship abroad?
Yes. We regularly arrange sea freight with the machine loaded and stuffed into a container, and we take care of installation and commissioning on site.

Can it be inspected before purchase?
Yes. The machine can be viewed by appointment and tested under load.
