Used terminal tractors and port tractors

In a terminal the container does not spend its life hanging from a crane: for most of the journey it sits on a trailer pulled by a terminal tractor. It is the machine that sets the pace of the yard — unglamorous, but when it stops the whole cycle stops with it.

Best Lift buys, overhauls and resells used terminal tractors, and supports them with parts and service.

Terminal tractors currently available

There are no terminal tractors in stock at our yard right now. Our fleet changes constantly: see all machines currently in stock — and if you tell us what you need (4×2 or 4×4, fifth-wheel height, single or double cab) we can source it for you. Office +39 0376 158 7847 — info@best-lift.it.

Why a terminal tractor is not a road tractor

  • Hydraulic lifting fifth wheel — couples and lifts the trailer without the driver leaving the cab
  • A cab built for climbing in and out dozens of times a day, often with a side door and a raised driving position
  • Short wheelbase, tight steering, for manoeuvring between stacks
  • A transmission built for continuous duty, not long distances
  • 4×2 and 4×4 versions, for paved or rough yards

What we check before reselling one

Fifth wheel and lifting hydraulics, transmission condition, brakes, cab and visibility, genuine hours on the meter. On a machine running a continuous cycle, hours tell you more than the year does.

Makes we handle

Terberg above all — we stock dedicated parts for it — and terminal tractors generally as they come through the European used market.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a terminal tractor and a road tractor unit?
A terminal tractor is built for the yard: lifting fifth wheel, tight manoeuvres, constant mounting and dismounting. A road unit on a terminal burns more fuel and wears out sooner.

Do we really need 4×4?
Only if the yard is rough or on a slope. On asphalt a 4×2 is enough and costs less to keep.

Do you have any available now?
Ask us: the yard changes faster than the online catalogue.

Do you supply parts and service?
Yes — see Terberg spare parts and technical service.
